We welcome our new Post-Doctoral Scholar in Catholic Studies!

The World Religions Minor welcomes Dr. Sinu Rose, the Cottrill-Rolfes Post-Doctoral Scholar in Catholic Studies!  Dr. Rose will be teaching HIS 330 “Christian Thought to the Reformation” in the Spring  Semester of 2022, as well as another course yet to be announced.  This is a wonderful opportunity for us to view the history of Christianity through fresh lenses!  Dr. Rose received her Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad for her dissertation on the topic of Portuguese Impact on Christianity in Kerala with Special Reference to Church Architecture 16th-18th Centuries AD. She was awarded the UGC Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minorities Senior Research Fellowship (2016-2018) and the UGC Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Fellowship (2018-2019).  Her Master’s degree research was supported by the Indira Gandhi Fellowship for Single Girl Child, and she was awarded the Andhra Bank Gold Medal for Woman Topper.  Her research interests are many: South Asian Christianity, Early Christianity, religious encounters in colonial spaces, Thomas Christian History, the reflection of culture in architectural traditions, maritime trade, early modern travel writings… As she puts it, “The variation in belief in various spaces has piqued my curiosity, especially religion’s development in spaces outside its original space of birth. The history of Christianity in different geographical spaces, both mainstream and divergent and indigenous, is my passion.”
